Public Functionary is pleased to present a late night option for this year’s Art-A-Whirl weekend in Northeast by collaborating with the monthly Icehouse residency: CMND+CTRL featuring music, projection and performance. Given PF’s reputation for late night gallery hours, musical collaborations and central location in NE Minneapolis this event provides a sensory, immersive experience for Art-A-Whirl enthusiasts after the breweries and studios have closed up for the evening.
ABOUT THE COLLABORATORS
CMND+CTRL is a monthly live event series in Mpls, MN representing the beat culture including hip hop, electronic, funk, experimental and much more. Generally hosted at the Icehouse, this presentation of CMND+CTRL is a special edition collaboration with Public Functionary for Art-A-Whirl. CMND+CTRL features live production, visuals and DJ’s.
Special Guest David Maxwell is an aesthetic engineer, and musician fusing hip-hop with sounds heavily influenced by soul and Jazz. He along with his collective comprised of a live band, fashion designer Isaac West, and art director Sethnocentric, will showcase a theatrical installation assembled by black women, called NØIR.
NØIR includes live original music and visuals by David Maxwell, a film shot by Kwame Agyei Jr., produced by Isaac West, David Maxwell & Sethnocentric. As well as photography from Nathan Elias & Sean Sullivan. The installation/performance is an ode to women of color. The project is centered along the lines of beauty and togetherness, and carries a theme of empowerment in a time when they are mostly disdained.
