You are welcome to contact Co-Directors Tricia Heuring or Mike Bishop personally via email. Public Functionary does not have a general inquiry phone line. Please be patient with responses as our team is small.

We welcome you into this space with a commitment to mutual respect, anti-oppression, and community building. We respect names, preferred gender pronouns, expressed identities, and experiences. We commit to making this space as accessible as possible; physically, socially, and personally. We do not tolerate ISMS: racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia or ethnic discrimination. We encourage open minds and open hearts. We foster a non-judgmental and accessible environment. We promote inclusive space. We encourage anyone who is feeling less than familiar with terminology, concepts, or context to ask questions in the spirit of personal growth.
There is ample on-street parking all around the building. Please be mindful of our neighbors when coming to and from the space, particularly in the later evening hours. Be careful not to park in front of driveways (yes, this happens). The quiet residential neighborhood in which we are located is gracious and accommodating, we hope you will help us be good neighbors.
We strive to make PF an accessible space, we do not have full ADA compliance yet, but we can accommodate. We have a wheelchair accessible entrance (on 12th Ave NE) that leads directly into the gallery but is separate from the loading dock entrance. Signs are marked around the building. Please contact us in advance if you have any special needs or preference for seating. It is our priority to ensure that you enjoy your time at the space.
Private events, panel discussions, workshops and other performances in the space are possible. Rates for renting the PF space are considered on a sliding scale in an intentional effort to distribute resources equitably. PF supports artists and cultural producers doing social justice work through art that impacts underrepresented communities. Organizations paying at the higher end of the scale makes it possible for PF to provide space to and support individual organizers and under-resourced artists. We work around an exhibition schedule so rental times are limited. PF is a volunteer-run space, response times vary based on capacity and other activity in the space.
Public Functionary prioritizes artists of color and historically marginalized artists. If you would like to send an exhibit proposal or invite us to a studio visit, send an inquiry to our curator, Tricia Heuring. Stay posted to our Facebook page for RFP’s and artist calls.
