THE FUNCTION: Block Party

For the past two years Public Functionary has hosted The Function as a ticketed event to raise funds to support PF’s programming. In light of how this year started for residents of the Twin Cities the PF team has decided The Function 2026 will be a FREE to the public block party! By removing the financial barrier to entry, we aim to make the event more accessible to the creative community and our neighbors in Northeast Minneapolis and beyond. 

Block parties as a form of activism increased in popularity in the 1970s as a way for communities to reclaim public spaces through the sharing of food, music, games, and art. These gatherings encourage getting to know your neighbors, inspire a sense of belonging and create much needed third spaces. 

The Function 2026: Block Party is a celebration of what makes our city so special – the resolve and creativity of our neighbors. After what we have been through it is important to come together to connect, reflect, process, and restore ourselves in preparation for what lies ahead. 

All in all, this day is going to be a joyful expression of our love for the place we live, knowing that joy is an essential act of resistance and resilience.
