PF SPACE

Public Functionary includes two multi-disciplinary arts presentation spaces in the Northrup King Building - PF Main Gallery (144) and PF Upstairs Gallery (247).

These spaces are curated by PF’s Artist-Led Team, which identifies artists, artist groups, and partner organizations to engage and collaborate with through direct outreach for seasonal exhibition and performance events, including some Open Call opportunities. The spaces are also programmed with PF Studios artist exhibitions. This represents most of the exhibitions and events presented in our spaces.

For information about upcoming PF presented exhibitions and events and to be updated on open call opportunities, follow us on social media, or subscribe to our monthly newsletter.

CAN I RENT THE PF SPACE FOR A PROJECT?

Through PF’s Curated Rental Program, we offer mentorship, planning assistance, and production guidance, plus a reduced rental fee to artists who are self-funding projects, or those who are new to event and performance hosting. We dedicate additional time, labor, and infrastructure to support these artist projects, in an effort to expand the accessibility of our space and further innovative arts programming in the Twin Cities.

PF’s Curated Rental Program is intended for artist-led public events and performances of a limited duration (1-2 days). Exhibition proposals are not accepted. A limited number of dates each year are available for submissions. PF's mission is to serve artists who identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Color. We prioritize submissions led by and intended to serve these communities. Our team reviews Curated Rental submissions monthly. We encourage applicants to submit their requests as far in advance as possible, as our calendar fills quickly.

 CURATED RENTAL PROGRAM INFO

PF’s 2024 Curated Rental application is currently closed.

2025 dates will be open and posted for proposals Summer 2024.

Rental Rates:

Room rental under the Curated Rental program is $500/per day for either our Main Gallery or Upstairs Gallery. This is a heavily discounted price from our typical space rentals exclusive to artist produced events.

Submission and Selection:

Artists interested in participating in PF’s Curated Rental program must first submit their proposal via our online form. Our team will review submissions (at least) monthly and may reach out to submitting artists for more information about their proposal, if necessary. Submissions must be received at least 1 month in advance of the requested date though more lead time is ideal. *Note that all dates listed may not be available as event requests may be pending.

When selecting events to book, we consider: Community (who the event is for, if it supports existing communities and/or seeks to expand community); Equity (does the event engage underserved or underrepresented communities, does it do so in a way that values their labor); Creativity (does the event propose creative use of the space, involve artists working expansively, etc.); Relationships (hosts who have existing relationships with PF, collaborative projects, projects with opportunities to build relationships between PF and new collaborators).

Booking and Planning

Once a proposal is selected for booking, a team member will contact the submitting artist directly to schedule an initial planning conversation and space walkthrough at PF. Our team will collaborate with the host artist to draft an initial event plan and space use contract. Host artists must also agree to adhere to our community guidelines and a 20% deposit Is due at contract signing, after which the event is added to our calendar.

PF provides a small amount of marketing assistance to events booked through our Curated Rentals program, through our website, newsletter, and social media.

We will conduct a final walkthrough and meeting with host artists one-week ahead of the event. A PF site coordinator attends each event, and other PF team members may also be available for day-of support, as necessary and agreed upon. Host artists are expected to fully strike the space immediately after the event, so that we can prepare to welcome the next artists.
