Kayla Baribeau

(she/her)

My name is Kayla Baribeau, and I am an artist based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I work as a painter, illustrator, and cartoonist, with an art style rooted in traditional comics. My work combines illustrative techniques with realistic elements and often explores themes of Black femininity and identity. Much of my art focuses on the female form and portraiture, portrayed in ways that feel both magical and dreamlike. Many of the figures I create share physical features and characteristics similar to my own, serving as reflections of my emotions and inner world.I primarily work with acrylic paint, ink, and pencil on canvas and paper, occasionally incorporating gold leaf and mixed media. I use vibrant colors, organic shapes, and a variety of blending techniques to bring my portraits to life, allowing me to explore different parts of my imagination and creative ideas. Each piece I create carries a part of me, as well as the influence of people I know and care about.
